Description

It is a basic experimental model to demonstrate the thermal expansion of solids. Under normal conditions, the ball passes smoothly through the ring. If the ball is heated and the ring is cold, it cannot pass through. However, if the ball and the ring have the same temperature conditions, i.e. both are hot or both are cold, the ball can pass through the ring. It consists of a circular brass ring mounted on an insulated handle and a fixed brass ball of slightly smaller diameter than the ring, also mounted on an insulated handle.

The 25 mm diameter brass ball and ring are mounted on single-handled rods. It is used to show thermal expansions. The ball will pass through the ring when cold, but will not pass after it has been heated.

It is among the materials used in the physics and science laboratories of schools and in experiments for heat and temperature education and teaching.
