Description

Educational magnets are painted in different colors and marked N-S in order to distinguish the north and south poles. The red area is north (N) and the blue area is south (S). It is used to teach concepts about the nature of magnetic fields.

Economical alnico magnets are an alloy of aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). They are weaker than neodymium magnets but stronger than ferrite magnets and are designed for simple gravity experiments involving lightweight objects such as compasses, iron filings and paper clips. The U-shaped magnet is painted red and the dotted part represents the north pole.

It is among the materials used in experiments conducted for magnetism experiments, education and training in school physics and science laboratories.
